Mission Trips
Our Commitment To Youth In Mission
Since
1989 our Youth Group
has traveled from
British Columbia
to
Cen
tral California,
from the Oregon coast to Mississippi.
We have painted
churches and hou
ses,
inside and out; taught Vacation Bible School;
built a picket fence;
and whatever else they wanted us to do.
All the funds for these trips are raised by the youth through
washing cars, baking and selling cinnamon rolls,
holding a Game-a-thon and selling
Partners in Mission Shares.
Like people everywhere our hearts ached
when we saw the devastation of
Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
So our youth group stretched itself to go
much further than ever before on their annual mission trip .
By July 2006 they had raised almost $10,000
to send 15 people to the Mississippi Gulf coast for one week to help rebuild homes.
But that wasn’t enough. Overwhelmed by the devastation they saw and the
loving graciousness of the people they met, the kids came home and said
“We want to dosomething more!”
So we gathered “Gifts for Gautier.” The church in
Mississippi where our youth stayed and worked provided us with
the names of 23 people from five families. Because they had
lost everything we sent them “Christmas Celebration” packages
to help them restart celebrating the season.
On December 13, 2006 we shipped 10 boxes weighing over 180 pounds
to the 5 families in Mississippi.
But still it wasn't enough.

So in March of 2007 our first “All Church Mission Trip”
traveled back to Mississippi once again to spend
another week helping rebuild homes.
The group of 19 members and friends included members from
3 generations of one family. Individual church members
have also joined Katrina relief mission trips through the Presbytery of the Cascades and Habitat for Humanity.
